Rewards of a Discovery Weekend

When asked 90% of youth and adults say Discovery improved their understanding of God.

Quotes:

“I finally realized God has a sense of humor.” 23 year old in Texas

“The weekend was great. Thanks for all the prayers and support. I definitely felt the power of prayer during the weekend as God moved through each youth and adult. I am still in awe of the weekend. It was so powerful and our youth are still talking about it.” Sue Owens in Texas

“Working with Melody really has been great. She actually knows our situation and gives real suggestion for our ministry. You can tell she has been a pastor for years.” Alan Watson in Alabama

“Discovery is not the answer to all our problems but it has really helped all our problems get better. Discovery and the training have brought real depth to our overall youth ministry. The healing that has occurred in our youth is amazing. They have a real depth now in their faith. Our senior highs and mid-highs get along so well now and they actually like each. Also our whole church will help with Discovery and this helps everything.”
Ben Hamm in Alabama

“We will hold a Discovery weekend every year. I want it to grow here in Oklahoma.” Jeremy Sanders in OK.

“The senior highs amazed everyone with their faith and joy in serving on the team.”
“I am still amazed how many of our youth attended.” Quoted by all our churches

“Discovery is the most powerful weekend for Christ and youth I have seen in my 35 years of youth ministry.” Ione Perry in Ohio

The following quotes were taken from the evaluations at the end of the weekend and during the Open Mic Service.

I have learned to see the good qualities in people.

I use to see God as a ruler now I see God as a teacher.

I use to be afraid of God now I see God as my best friend.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior.

I understand God is trying to guide me through my life.

Discovery has deepened my relationship with Christ.

I learned he can wash away your sins.

I really didn’t know about the Holy Spirit until this
weekend.

God’s love is so great.

God can use everyone.

I used to see God as boring now I see God as fun.

The most important part of the weekend for me was:
Prayer Service, talks, senior high leadership- they talked to me and shared so much about Christ, Broken Pottery, being with God, having my parents pray with me.

What would you change about Discovery?
Make the weekend longer, more free time to less free time, more music to less music, add movie time, more time in disciple groups, nothing

My response to God will be: Always follow God, be willing, stick to God, be a better Christian, pray more, love others, serve God, learn to draw closer to God

From youth director Becki McLamb from Edenton United Methodist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina:
”O my gosh we are blown away with what God has done here. I wanted to call you and say come up here and see this. There was one child who kept saying her dad would not attend the Prayer Service because he is an atheist- so we started praying about him. Dad was there at the service- she lost it. She was so happy she was shaking. He hugged her. The child said, “He hasn’t hugged me since forever and he was here.” I kept claiming Eph 3:20 and God did so much for us. The senior high were so amazed at God’s presence and shared so much even the ones we did not expect to share. We planned so much but we could have never planned for what all God did for us. The youth included kids who were not here before. Open mic was great and amazing.
100s and 100s of adults helped out. I am so proud of my high schoolers. They stepped up to the plate in such wonderful ways- they didn’t miss a beat- I really couldn’t believe it. I am so very very proud of them. Thank you for the material and how well planned everything was. God’s provisions over and over. Our mid-highs talked at the prayer service- oh my- how wonderful. Thank you so much and thank God for what has happen. People just don’t know until they experience this how much God will do for them.
